Product Description
The Allen-Bradley 1747-SN is a Remote I/O (RIO) Scanner for the SLC 500 programmable logic controller (PLC). It enables the SLC 500 to communicate with remotely located 1746 I/O chassis and other RIO-compatible Allen-Bradley operator interface and control devices.
The 1747-SN communicates with remote devices using the A-B Remote I/O link. This link is a proprietary high-speed communication protocol that can support up to 128 remote I/O devices over a single twisted-pair cable.
The 1747-SN is a DIN rail mount module that can be installed in a standard control panel. It has a built-in power supply and can operate on either 120 VAC or 240 VAC power.
Allen-Bradley 1747-SN Product Parameters
- Communication protocol: A-B Remote I/O link
- Maximum number of remote devices: 128
- Maximum communication distance: 1000 m
- Power supply: 120 VAC or 240 VAC
- DIN rail mount
Allen-Bradley 1747-SN Usage Method
The 1747-SN is used by configuring it in the SLC 500 PLC program. Once it is configured, the 1747-SN will automatically scan the remote I/O devices and update the SLC 500 memory with the current status of the remote I/O points.
The 1747-SN can also be used to control the remote I/O points by writing to the corresponding memory locations in the SLC 500.
Allen-Bradley 1747-SN Product Applications
The 1747-SN is used in a wide variety of industrial applications, including:
- Manufacturing
- Oil and gas
- Food and beverage
- Water and wastewater
- Material handling
- Building automation
Example Application
A 1747-SN can be used to control a remote I/O chassis that is located in a hazardous area. The 1747-SN can be installed in a safe area, and the remote I/O chassis can be installed in the hazardous area. This allows the PLC to control the I/O in the hazardous area without having to install the PLC in the hazardous area.
Discontinuation
Rockwell Automation has announced that the 1747-SN will be discontinued on March 31, 2024. Users who are currently using the 1747-SN should start planning to migrate to a newer RIO scanner, such as the 1756-DHRIO.
