Allen-Bradley 1747-DCM Product Description
The Allen-Bradley 1747-DCM Direct Communication Module (DCM) is a RIO module used to connect an SLC 500 Fixed Programmable Controller (PLC) with expansion chassis or any SLC 500 Modular PLC to a supervisory Allen-Bradley PLC via the RIO Link. This allows for a distributed processing system to be created.
Allen-Bradley 1747-DCM Product Parameters
- Module type: RIO
- Compatible PLC: SLC 500 Fixed, SLC 500 Modular
- RIO Link speed: 1.5 Mbps
- Maximum number of modules on a RIO Link: 63
- DIP switches: 2 banks for node address, baud rate, parity, and other settings
- Dimensions: 15.2 cm x 11.4 cm x 3.8 cm (6 in x 4.5 in x 1.5 in)
- Weight: 0.5 kg (1.1 lbs)
Allen-Bradley 1747-DCM Usage Method
The 1747-DCM is installed in an SLC 500 PLC chassis like any other RIO module. Once installed, the DIP switches must be configured to set the node address, baud rate, parity, and other settings.
The 1747-DCM is then connected to the RIO Link using Belden™ 9463 cable. The RIO Link is a daisy-chain connection, so the 1747-DCM can be connected to other RIO modules and to the supervisory PLC.
The 1747-DCM can be configured to communicate with the supervisory PLC using either the RIO Peer-to-Peer (RIO P2P) protocol or the RIO Scanner protocol. RIO P2P is a bidirectional communication protocol that allows the 1747-DCM to exchange data with the supervisory PLC in real time. RIO Scanner is a unidirectional communication protocol that allows the supervisory PLC to read data from the 1747-DCM.
Allen-Bradley 1747-DCM Product Application
The Allen-Bradley 1747-DCM is used in a variety of applications, including:
- Distributed processing systems
- Industrial automation systems
- Manufacturing control systems
- Material handling systems
- Process control systems
Example Application
A 1747-DCM can be used to connect a remote SLC 500 PLC to a supervisory PLC in a distributed processing system. The remote SLC 500 PLC can be used to control a local process, while the supervisory PLC can be used to monitor and control the overall process.
The 1747-DCM can also be used to connect an SLC 500 PLC to a supervisory PLC in a star topology. In this configuration, the supervisory PLC is the central node in the network and all of the other PLCs are connected to it.
Conclusion
The Allen-Bradley 1747-DCM is a versatile RIO module that can be used in a variety of industrial automation applications. It allows for distributed processing systems to be created, which can improve the performance and efficiency of industrial processes.
